2011 Weight Pull Results

Big THANKS to all who came out to participate in our 3rd Weight Pull Demo Event at the Reliant Dog Show, July 23rd. Click HERE for the full results and links to pictures and videos! ROMEO (Mastiff) won by pulling the Most Weight (1817.5 lbs) in 9.18 seconds!! PUNISHER (American Staffordshire Terrier) also won Highest Body Weight Percentage at 20.15%!! Very impressive!!

Pup-A-Palooza

TAMR hosted a "fun weight pull" as part of Meadowslake's Pup-A-Palooza! We had quite a few dogs come out and try it!! Many thanks to Delilah/Rick/Miki; Bob/Jamie/Rohn; Pete/Jennifer/Molly; Kim/Carl/Tala Lakota; Diana; Lis/Rob/Kiera/Collin; Tracey/Budah; Sonja/Juneau; Seana/Punky/Twister; Margie/Jewel for coming out in the heat to help us with the booth and weight pull!! RescueMe Parade

Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers for helping us plan and execute our "Alaskan Malamute - All-American Breed" entry at the first RescueMe parade at the Doggy Party on the Plaza!! We had a team of six Malamutes pulling a non-motorized go-kart and lots of Mals and humans walking as part of our team!! We got an "honorable mention" which we were bummed about as we thought we would at least place in the top 3 but it was not meant to be that day; plus the parade route wasn't condusive to really displaying what our go-kart team really could do! We're still very proud of our go-kart team as it was comprised of 5 rescues from high-kill shelters, most of who have already been adopted and was led by a cancer survivor and weight pull champion!! This was their first time ever doing this together! Go Mals!!

Garage Sale Fundraiser

Thank you to all those who gathered, cleaned and priced their goods they donated for our garage sale fundraiser!! It was a long and busy morning but well worth it as we raised $950+ for the Malamutes!! Woohooooo!!! Big thanks to Budah for being our Mal respresentative - you did a great job greeting the shoppers!!

We had a lot of stuff and sold a lot of it but still had 3 truck fulls to send to the donation center! Many thanks to Delilah, Diana, Kim, Lauren, Lis, Patty, Rob, Seana, Sonja and Tracey for volunteering at the event and making it so successful!!

Mardi Paws

TAMR participated in the annual Mardi Paws, aka Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Parade in Galveston. We had a large group of snow dogs and humans. TAMR got the honor to be the first organization in line right behind Dorothy and Toto and the Parade Leader. Big thanks to every human and fur-kids that came out for the fun event!! TAMR 4th Annual Happy Tails & BBQ

The Happy Tails Hike and BBQ was a hit with about 23 humans and 21 dogs! We opted for the day lodge this year and it was great, and we will definitely use it again. A few of the rescues (Jewel, Neo and Rohn) got to come out and join in the fun as well as a few new friends. We also got in on some river action and some of us were pretty wet afterwards but oh well, the dogs had a blast! Hopefully everyone that came out had some tired out doggies that evening. Adopt-a-thon

TAMR participated in the 3rd annual micro-chip clinic and adopt-a-thon on Feb 13, 2011. Pocketshots Fundraiser Event

Big woooo woooo's to Robyn Arouty Photography for allowing TAMR to be the beneficiary of her Pocketshots event this past weekend. We had 30 minute sessions booked from 7:30am to 8:00pm on Saturday and one session on Sunday for Robyn to take photos of our fur-kids as well as a few family pics! We had a lot of fun and so far, the sneak peaks are fabulous!! Pictured to the right are Lis, Kiera and Rob Grady; and Buddah - both TAMR alumni!

After Christmas Hike

We could have not picked a more beautiful day than today for a hike! The hike was apprx 3.2 miles and our first time to try this trail out. We will definately be back; it was a good hike with other possibilities like walking the reflection pond or over to the Battleship Texas! It was great to see everyone that came: Rick/Delilah (Miki/Bear/Buck), Duane/Nysha (Kona/Rowdy), Jonathan/Telisa (Legalo), Cheryl (Steele), and Lillian/Steve (Sierra/Wookie/Georgia/Truck). Big Kudos to Nysha for bringing the yummy cookies for afterwards :)

Thanksgiving Hikes

Thanks to all, both human and fur-kids, who came out on Saturday, Nov 20th in Huntsville State Park and Saturday, Nov 27th in Brazos Bend State Park to hike with us! On our first hike we had 14 fur-kids and 10 humans; and our second hike had 8 fur-kids and 10 humans plus a few alligator sightings!

TAMR/GCCSR Painting Fundraiser

TAMR and GCCSR hosted their first painting fundraiser at Pinot's Palette! We had 20 people join us for an evening of painting, food, drink and tons of fun!! We painted "O Christmas Tree" with the addition of a dog on the painting! Everyone did great adding their own version of their dog and the paintings look great!! Woofstock

Thank you to all who came out to support TAMR today at Woofstock; Kim, Seana, Lis/Rob (Kiera/Collin), Bob (Steele), Rick/Delilah (Miki) and Jewel. It was great to see some former TAMR rescues stop by to stay hi (Juneau, Chuch, Niko, and Sam). Jewel did great but is still selective about her dog buddies. Steele was a riot as always :) Collin was a sweet smiling boy all day. They all got some interest today. Two applicants came out to visit with Steele! Overall a great day.

Mutt Strutt

Steele made his debut at Mutt Strutt today in the Woodlands. Steele also 'stole' the show at times with his 'singing' to the crowds! He is definately a rambunctious pup (I say pup as he acts like one even tho he's 4 1/2 years old!!). Steele is a quite a character. BIG thanks to Delilah, Bob (Steele), Diana, Kim (Lana), and Seana (Mav) for coming out today. Mav did great today and even made buddies with Lana :) Lana was her beautiful self as always and insisted her mommy take her shopping for doggie treats :) The link has pictures from today.

PetFest 2010

We had a great time at PetFest this year even tho it was so HOT both days! BIG THANKS to Rick/Delilah (Miki), Kim (Lana), Diana, Bob (Jewel), Joyce/CJ/Roman (Thor/Lefty, our honorary mal on Sunday), Seana (Punky/Twister/Maverick), Tracey (Budah Bear), Cristina/Justin/Taylor (Kenya/Mika), Rob/Lis (Kiera/Collin), Pete, Margie (Amera) and Wilbur (Nikita/Harry). We made over $300 in donations this weekend! We had drinks available for a donation and they were a hit with the hot weekend. Wooooo Hooo!! Our volunteers are the greatest!! Call of the Wild (DFW)

We were invited to participate in a crossover event with the local libraries based on the "Call of the Wild" and the Irving Animal Care Campus. It was a small event but our 2 Mal ambassadors were quite a hit. Big thanks to Shan with Boy and Kelley with Tai and Jesse who volunteered for the event!

Paws in the Park (Austin)

Austin's Paws In The Park 2010 on 10-3-2010 was a huge success. Lots of people showed up on this sunny Sunday and we passed out a lot of business cards and brochures. Special THANKS to Linda & Garrell w/Adak, Paula w/Vane & Fury, Randy and Joanna w/Malcolm, Ellen, Ted with Toby for coming out to help promote TAMR.

TAMR helps launch new Cocker Spaniel Rescue

TAMR co-sponsored the Gulf Coast Cocker Spaniel Rescue Launch Party and everyone had a great time! There was yummy BBQ, raffle, silent auction and canine freestyle dancing! It was nice that the "big dogs" were able to lend a paw to the "little dogs"!

Big thanks to Kim with Aurora, Delilah/Rick/Rachel, Seana, Donna/Tracy, Wilbur/Julie, Rob/Lis with Collin and Kiera our official event representatives for coming out and helping with the event! Also, happy to see new volunteers Diana/Joyce/CJ with Phoebe in attendance!

2010 Weight Pull Results

First off, we would like to thank all of our volunteers and participants in making this year's weight pull a great success. Without all of you this event would not happen. If anyone has any suggestions for improvement, please send me a note as we are always looking for ways to improve.

As most of you noticed, there was a photographer present that volunteered his time to come out and capture pictures of all the participants. Thanks Arie! There is a small fee to download or print.

TAMR hosts Weight Pull Competition

Texas Alaskan Malamute Rescue (TAMR) will be co-hosting a Weight Pull Competition on Saturday, July 24th at the Reliant Dog Show in Houston, TX. We had a great time last year and looking forward to another great competition. For more information, please visit our website.

As this is an AKC event, we are being restricted on the breeds that can participate, please check the site for the allowed breeds. There is also a discount for those who register before July 10th.

Call of the Wild, April and May 2010

Every year, TAMR and Husky Haven rescues are invited to a couple of Pearland schools to participate in the "Call of the Wild" event. This year we went three times at two different schools. As always, the meet and greet of the Malamutes and Siberian Huskies are the highlights of the program!! Hound Dog Hustle 4/24/10

TAMR Dallas participated in the annual Hound Dog Hustle today, despite the early morning rain! There was a good turn out and our Mal representatives got lots of love and admirers! Huge thanks to Kelley/Joe/Joey with Jesse and Tai; Shannon with Boy (previously Beau); Elaine/Ian/Roz (friend) with Chaska and Christina with Sam. Apparently Sam is the jumpin mallie!! All the Mals did well together with their first meeting and working the event together!! YEAH!! Click here to see pics!

Pints for Pups 4/10/2010

Pints for Pups was a blast! Good weather, lots of people came, and a big THANK YOU to Marc & Barb w/Banks, Lucy & Stan w/Wolfy and Paula w/Vane. They were huge hits with the crowd. The best part is we got over $200 in donations!!! Click here for pics.

3rd Annual Happy Tails Hike & BBQ

We had a great time at the Happy Tails Hike & BBQ today. The hot temps made for a very long hot hike tho!! Humans and fur babies were all happy to finish it :) After relaxing and cooling off for a bit; we had a nice BBQ lunch. Thank you to all who came out. On a sad note; Anita, one of our former rescues got a dry snake bite and ended up in the doggie emergency room. After an overnight stay, she was able to go home and she is doing better. Paws in the Park - 3/27

TAMR participated in the annual Pearland Paws in the Park event this past Saturday. Rick/Delilah with Miki and Buck walked the 5K in the morning and then helped at the booth along with Rob/Lis and Collin and Kiera. In the afternoon, Delilah and Miki got second place in the costume contest after bringing out the Little Red Riding Hood and Grandma costume out of retirement; they should've won first place but their cheering section was outscreamed by a bunch of kids! Oh well, next time! In addition, Kim/Carl with Bianca and Lana; and Seana with Twister and Punky came out to help in the afternoon at the booth. Punky and Bianca were runway models in the rescue fashion parade. It was a good afternoon to be out with the fur-kids! We got to see Faelen (former rescue) and his new family as well as Ron and his crew, including Thor that we're helping out with at SHR. Pictures are available here: Pics 1 and Pics 2.
