CHAAMP (Chesapeake Area Alaskan Malamute Protection) rescue group in Chesapeake, VA took in 5 emaciated malamutes and are expecting 8 more from a woman who could not feed them anymore. She had been feeding them oatmeal! All the dogs have had bad diarrhea and lice, one has bad mange, most have cuts and wounds from fighting? They are in need of lots of good nutrition, spay/neuter, vetting, etc.. TAMR heard about these poor pups and a few of us donated boxes of Frontline, etc.

12/15/08: Their conditions were horrible (click here to see dogs before).

12/30/08: Happy to report all dogs are doing much better (click here to see dogs now!).

If you're interested in the detailed updates we received in donating to CHAAMP and helping these pups, please email Delilah.

T'was A Mal Before Christmas

T’was the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring; neither man, mal, nor mouse

The stockings that hung by the chimney with care,
were empty of treats and covered in hair

The mals tuckered out, with Christmas ahead.
Our sweet little pack won’t share the bed.

Maya in her kerchief and Tova in a cap,
had long since nestled for a winter’s night nap.

With treats dancing aplenty, filling Tova’s head.
With sweet little Maya, it was chickens, instead.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter.
The pack jumped from the bed to see what was the matter.

Straight to the window they ran in a dash,
tearing through drapes; ripping up sash.

Behold in the yard, he really did appear.
It was Santa and his sled with eight mighty reindeer.

Straight to the roof, in a blink of an eye,
with sack full of goodies Santa could really fly.

Straight down the chimney with such grace and ease.
Watching Santa work brings shivers to knees.

He filled stockings brim; left presents for all..
With amazement we watched from deep down the hall.

He spoke not a word performing his work
But with a yip from the mals he turned with a jerk.

With a twinkle in his eye Santa could clearly see.
In all the excitement the malamutes got free.

With a vim and a vigor; paws stomping floor,
Maya after Santa. Tova through the door.

There was poor Santa, filled with such fright.
Maya’s mohawk ablaze as she leaps into the light.

But with an open hand and with a voice so sweet,
Maya simply calmed and collapsed at his feet..

And in a moment so perfect at the heart strings it tugs.
Santa knelt to her side and gave sweet belly rubs.

But in a flash of a thought Santa still had fear.
Where was Tova? What of his reindeer?

When we ran outside another wonder our eyes did see.
The scared little reindeer were up in the tree.

“Oh Dasher”, “Oh Dancer” A laughing Santa cried;
while the mighty Tova pranced around in pride.

As the cold winter skies sprinkled new snow.
We hugged Santa hard. It was time for him to go.

We Wooo’d with exclaim as he drove out of sight.
“Merry Christmas to all and to all a Good Night”.

TAMR Holiday Hike

Despite the weather, we went on the TAMR Holiday Hike today with 6 humans and 5 dogs; 3 of which were Mals! It was cold and drizzling at the beginning but nothing too hard so we decided to do a "short" hike, only 6.8 miles! Of course we warmed up while hiking and eventually the light drizzle let up. We stopped at the dam to have a quick "lunch". It was the first hike for Nate (alaskan malamute), our newest foster as well as Cato (sheltie) and Dusty (siberian husky); Miki and Buck (both alaskan malamutes) are old pro's at this!! Thanks to Howard and Rick for organizing it and for Eileen/Dusty; Kim/Carl/Nate; Delilah/Rick/Miki/Buck; and Howard/Cato for hiking! It was fun!! View pics 1 and pics 2!

Cooper Animal Clinic Christmas Pictures with Santa

December Meet & Greet at Cooper Animal Clinic

TAMR participated in the monthly Meet & greet at Cooper Animal Clinic (Heights) yesterday, Dec 6 which was held in conjunction with the Heights Holiday Home Tour.  There were a lot of people stopping by and Nate did well on his event debut!  Thanks to Delilah, Rick and Miki for setting up and tearing down.  Also, thanks to Ron for coming and bringing Tiro.  Rachel and Andrew stopped by for a while and brought along honorary Mal, Rhett the Bull Terrier.  Rhett's so funny; he likes our furry ones.  BIG BIG thanks to Carl for coming out as a sub for Kim (sick) which was supposed to be just for a little bit and ended up staying hours!  He helped hold Miki and Nate quite a bit.  Click here to view pics of the event!
