Gift Wrapping at Barnes & Noble

This year during our gift wrapping shifts at Barnes & Noble to raise funds for the rescue; we added a new location in Sugar Land and they allowed us to bring the furry ones along! BIG THANKS to all for coming out to help this year. The furry ones were a HUGE hit at the Sugar Land store and we're hoping to get more shifts at that location next year. The other shifts were at the Pearland Barnes & Noble. Click here to see pictures of the furry ones drawing the crowds!

FOX news weatherman segment

We had a TAMR friend win a contest on the Fox Channel 26 in Houston. Part of the what's involved in this is the Fox Channel weatherman came to her house to shoot the weather for the 5:00/5:30 evening news! She invited TAMR to come out and be on TV to promote the rescue. KFC donated a ton of chicken so we had a feast. Dogs featured were Miki, Bear, Sasha Bear, and Beau. Bear and Beau were the 2 rescues spotlighted :) See some pics here.

Reliant Dog Show Recap

First, Reliant is over for another year (whew!?) and I know we have some very tired folks (and dogs) out there now! Everyone did great from our booth volunteers to our WP crew, and all their helping hands and paws. Your time, energy, and effort is *very* appreciated and I hope everyone had a really good time at the show!

The Weight Pull on Saturday was a big success! Despite minimal show advertising, it drew lots of public attention with many folks asking if we were doing it again Sunday. (If we only knew!) This may have been our first ever WP, but probably not our last from all the positive feedback we have received so far. So a big thanks goes to everyone that helped make the weight pull happen or work the event.

Booth visitors were nearly non-stop all weekend and kept everyone hopping. Reliant is one of the bigger dog shows in the nation, certainly the biggest in Texas, and I'm guessing many of you may not have realized that earlier? (Although I bet some do now!? LOL) It takes some team work to pull it off and still have some fun. I think we did that and more this year! Every bit of that is a major credit to all our volunteers... dog and human!

And last, Reliant has traditionally been more for public exposure and breed education. So we are usually happy just to break even cost wise and make a few new friends? This year's show was easily the best one in ages and also the first one to bring in any real profit for rescue... and we did it at *both* the weight pull and the booth! Way to go guys!! We couldn't have done that without you!

And no...I'm not forgetting the friends that couldn't make it, folks that popped in just to say hello, or the support from outside TAMR. I know I missed some folks and didnt get a chance to talk to everyone, so I just wanted to say all your support is definitely appreciated! :-)

Spring Fling - 5/16/2009

We had a "swimmin" good time at Urban Tail's Spring Fling on Sat, May, 16th. We were invited to setup a table at their holistic fair and had an applicant and others stop by to meet the Mals (and huskies) and see them play. At one point, we somehow cleared out the pool area and it was the Mal/Husky pool pawty with Lana, Miki, Nate, Mocha and Aurora playing!! Thanks to Delilah and Rick with Miki, Kim and Carl with Lana, Nate, Mocha and Aurora for coming out to the event!! Pics and videos of the event are available: set 1 and set 2.

4/11/09 Happy Tails Hike & BBQ

Thanks to all humans (17) and furry ones (14) who came out to Lake Houston for the 2nd Annual Happy Tails Hike & BBQ. The rain held off and it was cool and overcast so we had great weather for our event!!

We went on a leisurely 3 mile hike in the morning and then afterwards enjoyed a BBQ lunch of grilled hot dogs and sausages, sides, chips and dessert! I think everyone and dog had a great time!!

Click here for pics (apologies if I got names of humans and furry ones incorrect)!

The winds made setting up our booth extremely hard so we ended up having a redneck booth? Skeleton tent (no tent) just the frame and the table cloth was held down with bungee cords on our event table. My brother would be so proud of me :) My new Malamute Chalkboard came in just in time too and got to show it off today except I forgot to write something on it!

Thanks to Rick, Delilah, Miki, Bear, Ron, Artica, Issac, Margie, and Keno. Keno made his debut today at his first event! Not too many pictures from today; my hands were too cold but here are a few.

The Mals were represented well this weekend with 3 Mals (all female!) participating in the weight pull (Miki, Nikita, Skye) in Austin. Lynn was able to join us with Roadside participating too. Mardi Paws 2/22/09

We had a great time at Mardi Paws this year!! The doggies had their own parade followed by the human one. The parade moved along nicely and we threw out our beads to the crowds! We got lots of cheers. A couple times when we would go through a big section with crowds, we got some loud cheering for us. Our group included Miki and Buck pulling the TAMR sled along with Delilah and Rick; Bear (Rick & Delilah's foster) also tagged along and hung out with Rachel; Renee, her parents and Anita; Lisa, Gregory and Kamea; Ron and Artica; Rachel and Andrew and Rhett, their Mal wannabe; Howard and his honorary Mal; Margie, Kim, Carl, Nate and the Mal cousins (Mocha and Aurora) and their friend Krista, Sasha and Sergei were there were there but didn't quite make it in time to join in the parade! January's Adoption Dayz

We had our first Adoption Dayz event yesterday, 1/24 at Natural Pawz Sugar Land. It was a cool, windy day but it was a good event as we had a lot of people stop by to meet Nate and Malachi, who made his event debut. Malachi is a big goober puppy and was quite the hit whereas Nate was a refined gentlemen trying to show Malachi how he should really act at events! :-)
Thanks to Carl, Kim and Delilah for being at the event! Click here for pics!
